[edit] Cultural references
- The episode title is a pun on the 1997 film Smilla's Sense of Snow.
- The school mentioned on the radio "Springfield Elementary My Dear Watson Detective School" is a reference to Sherlock Holmes and his catchphrase, "Elementary, my dear Watson."
[edit] Trivia
- When the children are in flour sacks as they go to sleep, Bart rests his head on his red jacket. When Skinner switches the light off, it turns grey.
- Principal Skinner decided to open Springfield Elementary, even though Superintendents are the people who would decide that.
- When the kids are burning literature, someone throws Huckelberry Finn into the fire. Skinner then says that "It took [him] hours to cross out all the swear words", but his lips don't match the words.
